And in other news… Ronda Rousey beat Sarah Kaufman in Strike force. However, I have talked about that so much that I don’t feel like posting on that subject. Instead I offer you this short video.

See wasn’t that more fun?

When I’m not working or training, there is a great chance that I am trolling the Internet for weird martial arts stuff. Normally, I use the term to mean “… a method of fishing where one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water. ” (Thank you wikipedia). But today I mean trolling, as in like a troll, or just picking on someone.

It starts with ninjas. Ninjutsu is a real martial art from Japan, and I am sure there are some real practitioners of the style here in the USA, however we can never be sure, since they are so well hidden. Ninja are like the Where’s Waldo of martial artists. So when I find a website advertising their whereabouts, I think I need to look into it.

As I scrolled down the web page of one such school I was greeted by one of the greatest martial arts statements I’ve ever heard.

And I did read more. However they didn’t tell me about this magic that replaces muscles in martial arts. I did get to read about the instructor though. He’s a black belt, and also awarded the rank of “Warrior Knight of the Shielding Blade” But don’t worry this brand of magic ninjutsu focuses only on proven and practical magical fighting techniques.

I don’t know how I missed it before now. I finally found the web comedy Enter the Dojo this afternoon. It chronicles the Ameri-do-te master Ken in his martial arts school. What is either so sad its funny or so funny that its sad, is that it reminds me of karate class when I was younger. The talk, the phrases, even the movements. You need to check this out.

We all know them. It doesn’t matter if you train for MMA competitions, or if you are even in a combat sport. They are everywhere. I like to call them Tapout Kids, and they are spreading. They are a cunning hunter that wants to corner you and waste your time with trivia and options that the Internet would blush to be associated with, but like all true wannabes they have never worked in or trained for the sport which spawned them. They are at your gym, lurking at the mall, employed at your job and they can only be avoided if you know what to look for. Below is a list of signs that the person in front of you is a Tap Out Kid.

Well the “Cupcaking” has continued into this week, and I make no excuses, no that would require me to write something. No instead of excuses, I bring for your consideration, a man, an actor, and lately a fighter. I bring you a man with three first names. Jason David Frank. If that name means anything to you, then you truely are a nerd. Because he was a Mighty Morphin Power Ranger. Over the course of his “acting” career he played a green ranger (see the picture to the right), a white ranger, a read ranger and a black ranger. He has also appeared in more episodes then any other actor, 242! Naturally being locked into a never ending and low budget series liks this will lead a martial artist to either on of two paths. Rage binge eating or Mix Martial Arts, so it was unsurprising when he hung up his Ranger uniform and decided to fight a different breed of crazy people.

Yeah I know. Who’d have guessed this tough guy was under all that spandex? Its like when you pick a fight with a mall Santa. Some of those guys will mess you up! And the beard makes it harder to rear naked choke them. Although they are some of the few people upon whom I have ever pulled off a winding beard choke. But I digress.

Mr Jason David Frank is currently a 7th degree black belt in karate, and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He’s 4-0 as an amiture in MMA and 1-0 as a pro. So far three of his five wins have been by submission, so that pretty impressive. He’s also started his own martial art called Toso Kune Do, which he says combines Aikido, Jeet Kune Do, Judo ,Kickboxing, Shotokan Karate, Thai Boxing, Weapons, Boxing, Grappling, Savate and Gunting

And yes I did say Gunting. I have no idea what that is, but I don’t make this stuff up. I copy and paste it from their websites. (You can tell because its spelled correctly). Anyway, I am looking forward to the continuation of this man’s career (you know, now that I know he exists)

I want to be a responsible for coming up with concepts for extreme sports. I think all you need to invent the next big thing (and by big thing, I mean one or two viral videos on youtube) is to have $30, a few crazy friends, and the reasoning skills of an eleven year old. Then you plug random words into the following sentence.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we took (insert sport) and added (insert cool noun)!

Some ideas I’ve come up with using this process are

Wouldn’t it be cool if we took sking and added Rocket Launchers!

Wouldn’t it be cool if we took baseball and added motorcycles!

Wouldn’t it be cool if we took hunting and added the Statue of Liberty!

As you can see, it works. Well it seems I’m not the only one who thinks so, apparently even back in 1949 they were doing this, and without the aid of the Internet…and that’s just silly. I give you blind folded boxing.

Now the girl who walks around and smacks you if you aren’t being aggressive enough is awesome.

Don’t forget to share this with your friends

A valid question that all martial artists must ask themselves as they train. The second question is which street? Below is a video of real life street fight. Take a look and let me know if you think your martial arts can match either of the two men involved.

Good news friends, I think we will be alright this time. And if either of the two men are amoung my readers, please contact me and we’ll get some lessons set up for you.

Depending on what you read, MMA is either human dog fighting, a sport that should be included in the Olympics, what True martial arts should be, or an abomination that needs to be stopped. Therefore when you tell your friends and family that your are training for MMA, it will conjure many different pictures in their minds, here are a few.

This is what your parents think you do when you tell them you do MMA

Thats nice honey, I hear its good for your flexibility

I’m not really sure if this counts as martial arts related. I mean, tazers are self defense weapons, which is related to martial arts… so if you take a hand full of MMA rejects and make them play a weird football/soccer hybrid, surely this counts.

Well it doesn’t matter anyway. Of the eight people who read this blog only three are aware that its martial arts related anyway, and the other five are personal friends or family who read the blog out of guilt. Which I inflict on them. So click on share tabs…or I’ll make you feel guilty

Thanks Dad.

Anyway, Ultimate Tazer Ball. Have you noticed that if you put the word “Ultimate” before any sport, it always lowers the IQ of the average participant? Well in this case, you get a gient soccer ball (which you are perfectly alowed to carry in your hands) and try to get it into the opposing team’s goal. And you have tazers which you can shock the life out of your opponents. I know what you are thinking. Why? Not sure, its nice to know that there is something less intellegent then Shock Fighting but I’ve posted a video of it anyway.
