Tell me that isn't kind of cool...in a fat kind of way.

Am I weird for wishing that more Sumo would come and fight MMA?

Don’t answer that.

I look at Sumo Wrestlers and I see martial artists with alot in common to today’s Combat Sport fighters. They live in their training camps, they focus solely on training and…heh…shaping their bodies to compete, and they are plagued by accusations of corruption and steroid usage. You may remember my article on them earlier this year

People like to point out that they haven’t done very well in MMA up until this point, but I want to point out that there have only been three Sumo to try so far. That really doesn’t give you a good picture of how the fighting style would do. I mean heck, pro wrestlers manage to do well, yes Brock, I am thinking of you, so why not Sumo? More after the break

Not fighting birds, that’s stupid… I mean using birds as weapons!

Birdjitsu is an art rarely practiced in the states, and is no doubt heavily prosicuted by PETA. Nay sayers might ask if fighing with birds is practical. I will gladly point out there are very few places in the world without birds! heh, hope you enjoyed this one as much as I did.

These aren’t for your kids. No matter how cool, I think this will get them in trouble if they bring them to school. They are Throwing Star Push Pins!

Basically one more way to annoy your coworkers, these are throwing stars missing one corner so they can be used as normal thumb tacks. The best part is that they are only $9.99 for a set of three! I don’t know if they can be shipped in time for Christmas, but I’m going to check. You can find them here.

Yeah strange title, but I just read an article which said that Brazilian Jui jitsu was a dying art in MMA. After watching some of the awesome feats of Jui Jitsu last night, I am pleased to report that breaking limbs and choking people out is still happening at every level of the UFC.

I would have found a video of Nogueira’s arm being broken, but frankly (heh, Frankly, get it, like Frank Mir?) watching that once was enough for me. The other bit of awesome was when Jon Jones Choked Lloyto Machida. Machida was deeply asleep when Jones let him go, but I am sure he’s feeling better then Noguerira this morning. Now before I tick everyone off, I was pulling for Machida, but as a martial artist, I have to give mad props to a well done submission. UFC 140 was pretty darn awesome no matter who you were pulling for.

That’s what Dana White said about  Jason “Mayhem” Miller. Not that I care about what Dana White thinks about fighting in general, but it doesn’t bode well for Miller. Dana said,

It was bad. To be honest, believe me, my Twitter has been blowing up with all the Mayhem fans blasting me, but facts are facts. It was the worst standup I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen worse standup. The guy’s been in the business for over 10 years. It looked like it was his first fight ever. It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. Some of the punches that were thrown by Mayhem Miller in this fight, you could go to a girls’ Tae Bo class and see better form, better stand-up. It was embarrassing,”

Personally I think Dana needs to apalagise to all the women who do Tae Bo need. Heck, this coming from a dude with a girl’s name!

Every morning as we get dressed, we ask ourselves, exactly what weapons should we be wearing. After all, weapons make the man. You want something less deadly then a gun, but not as lame as a can of mace.

Look no farther my friend, I bring you the mace gun!

I found it on Cabelas.com for only $60. It shots 7 shots per cartridge and even comes with a water cartage for target practice. Now you can be cool too.

Strikeforce, the only real competitor with the UFC for MMA in the US has decided that the UFC is being just plain spiteful and mean by competing with them. Knowing what we do about the UFC and MMA as a sport we are all shocked and outraged that they would try to defeat and out perform their competition.

Mainly Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker was complaining about the UFC planning counter programing, or putting together great cards at the same time as Strikeforce is planning an event to force fans to chose which event to watch. “The thought of somebody trying to counter-program you just to hurt your number or try to hurt your business or to create confusion in the marketplace, I mean, that’s something that just seems so unnecessary.”

Yeah Dana! Its like when I fight, the thought that the other guy is trying to hurt me or try to confuse me is really unnecessary! We should all just resolve out differences with…. I don’t know, a coin toss.

He went on to say that ““We’re just trying to build the industry. Here’s what I mean by that: when the fans get to watch these fights on TV for free, I think that’s good for the sport. The more eyeballs we have on the sport, I think it’s better for the industry as a whole. Maybe some people might not feel that way today, but I think in the long run, free TV is what keeps MMA alive.”

Now I give him this, I don’t want a world where Dana White calls all the shots. I think that competion is good. But whining isn’t. No whining people!

Thanks to fighters.com for the info.

I’m not so sorry to say that I don’t keep up with the Ulimate Figher show. I loving watching the UFC and I have my favorite fighters. Never once have I said to myself, “Hey What I really want to see is more trash talking, high jinx and and maybe a fight.”  That’s why I go to Walmart.

But in anycase, tonight I do mildly care about.  It looks like it will be one of those events that will be more entertaining than a normal UFC (not counting the last one. I still want to give Dan Henderson a hug, and I am not ashamed to say it) Fights tonight include

Under sized Louis Gaudinot vs. Johnny Bedford at bantamweight

Yves Edwards vs. Tony Ferguson who won season 13

John Dodson vs. TJ Dillashaw also at  Bantamweight

Diego Brandao vs. Dennis Bermudez: Featherweight

And of course Michael Bisping vs Jason Mayhem Miller

Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming crazy kung fu master

We martial artists look at other athletes and sneer. They aren’t in the same class as we are. We are warriors. We have no off season. Life is our season! There are no scholarships to be earned in martial arts, we pay for the privilege of being hammered and twisted and slammed over and over. So how would you feel about signing up to do nothing but train 24/7 at a remote location for 10 years?

Yeah, I’m dedicated, not crazy. I’d miss the internet, friends, pets, even my wife. Well Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, decided to just that. He wanted to take young martial artists and get them to dedicate themselves to a 10 year training program out in the mountains. The discription from their website is as follows.

“YMAA Retreat Center in Humboldt County, CA is a nonprofit organization established in 2005 by the founder of YMAA (Yang’s Martial Arts Association), world renowned author and teacher, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, Ph.D. The purpose of this organization is to restore and preserve traditional Chinese martial arts and culture to their original level of high quality and standards.”

Although Yang is the only live in instructor, he also brings in other kung fu masters to work with his students. How many? Only 12, and so far, four years into the project, 7 have quit. In early 2012 Yang is going to allow six more students to join for a shorter five year program, so if you are interested, give’m a call (707) 502-8739

Yang says that after the 10 year program is finished, he plans on retiring completely. Crazy or not, this is pretty cool. I am still kind of confused as to how you get a 10 year commitment out of people, but salute to you, you crazy kung fu cult.

We call that deceptive headlines. But I got you excited or at least confused didn’t I? Now I have you annoyed and confused. What I am really hoping for is that little bit of text will drive more traffic to the site…

But really, I found this video where ask a bunch of UFC fighters who they think is a better trash talker, Chael Sonnen or Mayhem Miller.

Its nice to know that Chael has made such an impression in the minds of his peers. I really liked Stephan Bonnar’s real discomfort at being asked who was going to win in the Bisping vs Miller fight. I also feel like I want to shoot a real machine gun. We call that good ad placement.
